National Mill Dog Rescue
National Mill Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Peyton, CO. Their mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abused and discarded breeding dogs and to educate the public about the harsh realities of the commercial dog breeding industry.
National Mill Dog Rescue was established in February 2007, in honor of a forgiving little Italian Greyhound named Lily. Theresa Strader, NMDR’s Founder and Executive Director, rescued Lily from a dog auction in Missouri. Prior to that day, Lily had spent the first seven years of her life as a commercial breeding dog, a puppy mill mom. Determined that her years of living in misery would not be in vain, Strader started NMDR, giving a voice to mill dogs across the country.
The short video below gives you a glimpse into National Mill Dog Rescue, the wonderful humans who run it, and the animals who are finally getting the love and respect they deserve.

Their organization rescues dogs from Texas, Kansas, and New Mexico that are in danger of euthanasia in high-kill shelters. After transport to Colorado, dogs are placed in loving foster homes and are fully vetted with vaccinations and spay/neuter prior to adoption.
El Paso County Canine Rescue operates through fosters, so all dogs in their care are placed into foster homes before obtaining their fur-ever home. Hence, there is no central location to come visit. All Meet and Greets with the adoptable dogs are by appointment only.
If you are interested in fostering with El Paso County Canine Rescue, they will take care of the basics (Food, Kennel, Bowl, Collar, etc), so all you provide is a temporary loving home and transportation as necessary.

9 Lives Rescue Inc.
9 Lives Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit cat rescue organization, which depends solely on unpaid volunteers to operate. As they don’t have a centrally located shelter, cats are kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Thus, the number of cats they can rescue depends directly on the number of foster homes they have – the more people willing to foster, the more animals can be rescued.
9 Lives Rescue, Inc. is also a “no-kill” organization and will euthanize an animal only if its health is so poor that trying to keep it alive would be cruel to the animal. Their objective is to make every effort to place all animals that come into their care into appropriate loving homes.
Most of the cats in 9 Lives Rescues’ care are in foster homes. However, they rotate cats through the adoption center at the Powers Petsmart (NE Powers & Constitution). Potential adopters can visit them during regular store hours. They do require a completed application to arrange a meeting.
If you are interested in adopting, you will need to complete adoption form after selecting a possible new pet. This adoption form is a questionnaire that helps determine if the situation is compatible with the selected pet’s personality. This is why it is important that the possible new pet be selected before the application process. Applications are available by calling their hotline at 719 591-4640, emailing at cats@colorado9lives.com, or downloading here. Completed applications can be emailed to cats@colorado9lives.com

Wild Blue Cats!
Wild Blue Cats is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in the Black Forest area of NE Colorado Springs dedicated to saving the precious lives of cats and kittens who are abandoned, abused, neglected, displaced or surrendered, and to find them permanent homes or provide lifetime sanctuary or foster care. They also conduct Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) ventures outside city limits while supporting TNR efforts inside city limits to the best of their capacity. 100% of the cats we help are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and, when not feral, microchipped.
Our main building consists of communal housing for mostly adult cats where each has an opportunity to coexist with other cats while they are waiting for loving homes. Also, our cats have access to outdoor time in roomy “catios” protected from the elements and predators. Some cats may stay with us to live out their lives but we consider every cat adoptable and work hard to find them the perfect home.
Wild Blue Cats! also has an extensive foster family network which primarily houses the kittens that are rescued and saved and come into their program. Their fosters help care for neonatal bottle-fed kittens to older kittens, as well as pregnant mama cats or mama cats with kittens. Occasionally, a foster home will also become a final resting place for a cat who needs hospice care as its life here on earth comes to an end.
Maya’s Friends Wildheart Village is another component of Wild Blue Cats! Maya’s is a wonderful 100 foot by 200 foot outdoor, netted enclosure with a heated shed and lots of hiding spots for our shy, feral cats who we take in when releasing them is not a safe option for them. They have a wonderful life being cared for daily by loving volunteers. Some even become candidates for adoption depending on their stress level and adaptability.
